New Language Class Special Transportation

St. Andrew is so fortunate to get an additional class at our school starting on Tuesday, October 8th, 2019.  Please join me in welcoming both Mrs. Sonia Pilon, the soon to be teacher of the OCSB system Primary Language Class here at St. Andrew.  Mrs. Pilon has been teaching this class for almost a decade at another OCSB school, St. Mary’s. Now, she joins our team and so will 18 other students.  There will be 10 new primary students who will join us in the morning half of the day and 8 for the afternoon blocks of the school day.

These wonderful kiddos will be arriving to and departing from our school in OSTA Special Transportation at the same time as bus arrivals and dismissals.  In saying this, it is very important for the St. Andrew community to do the following:

  1. PARK ONLY BEHIND OSTA BUSES AND STUDENT TRANSPORTATION:  There will be a pylon to mark the location in which you must park behind, starting on Monday, October 7th, 2019.

  2. ADOPT A KISS & RIDE APPROACH to drop-off starting on Monday, October 7th, 2019.  At this time, we will have our CAA foot patrolers out in the front of the school to assist students on the sidewalk and guide them to our school yard. Parents only need to pull in to the sidewalk, kiss and say good-bye to their children in order to keep the flow of cars running efficiently and safely.

  3. If you insist on parking as opposed to a Kiss and Ride approach to drop-off, then you must park either safely in the parking lot or on Cresthaven Drive.

  4. Parents who drop-off for Crestway Childcare must enter the parking lot or use Cresthaven Drive when dropping off or picking up their children during the hours of 8:45-9:15a.m.

The St. Andrew educational team truly appreciate your support with student drop-off and pick-up. All implemented expectations are put in place to ensure the safety of all of our students, which is always a top priority for all of us.

Terry Fox Launch

The Terry Fox Run will be held on Friday, October 18th, rain or shine. On Monday, September 30th, we will launch the event during our Community-themed Recognition Assembly.  As a reward for attaining our goal of $4, 000, chosen educators will be wrapped with toilet paper at the end of the run. The two students in your classes who raise the most money will have the privilege of wrapping an educator in toilet paper.

Terry Fox pledge forms will be coming home with your child(ren) next week.  Stay tuned!

Information about the current clubs/activities at St. Andrew

  • The St. Andrew Dance Club has begun!  Thank you Mme. Ranger and Mrs. Kelso for leading this awesome club.

  • Tryouts/practices for Ultimate Frisbee have also started. The tournament is on Oct. 16th. Thanks, again, to Mme. Ranger for supporting this sport and event.

  • The cross-country team will be making some cuts for the 9 and under girls and boys on Wednesday Oct 2nd.  A huge congratulations to all students who are trying out for this event. All should be very proud of all of the effort and dedication you are putting into improving your endurance and health.  Thank you Mme. Legault and Mr. Buccini for all of the time you have put into the early morning training of our students.

Our Recognition Assembly - COMMUNITY

Our St. Andrew students have been working very hard at demonstrating a sense of community in various ways.  Community can be recognized as taking part in a club, giving a helping hand to a peer or educator and/or behaving in such a way that shows us that you know all members of the St. Andrew community matter. There are some students who have demonstrated these behaviours exceptionally well this month and will be recognized at our September 30th Recognition Assembly.

Orange Shirt Day - Monday, September 30th, 2019

What is Orange Shirt Day? Orange Shirt Day is commemorated on September 30th each year.  (We don’t say celebrate). It is an influential movement sweeping across Canada that is helping to educate our students and communities on the history and legacy of the Residential School system. We will come together in our Recognition Assembly to commemorate  this day, so all St. Andrew staff

and students are encouraged to wear orange.

For more information, see Official website:

CUPE Work to Rule Job Action

As many of you are aware, our CUPE staff members (EA’s, ECEs, library technicians, some central support staff, and office administrators) have initiated job action to begin on Monday, September 30th.  It is important to remember that this is a very stressful time for many people as staff deal with union directives while trying to meet their commitments to students and to our school community.

The only changes that the St. Andrew parent community need to know at this time is that the front door buzzer system that allows guests to enter the school will not be in use while CUPE is on work to rule.  Principals have been directed to keep the door open in between the hours of 8:30a.m. - 4:00p.m. to help facilitate the “comings and goings” of parents and students. Mrs. Tittley will of course monitor who is coming into the building. Student safety is always a top priority and we will ensure that it will be maintained during this time.

Thank you, in advance, for your understanding and support.
